Dash News…Goosebumps: The Movie

Reader Beware…some! You’re In For Something Awesome! Dash Jordan here with some breaking news. Just a few hours ago, the official trailer for the upcoming ‘Goosebumps’ movie trailer has been released:

Insert “Actual Goosebumps On The Skin” joke here, and we’re done.

Needless to say, but I’m actually quite excited for this film’s release. So close to Halloween too. For years, it seemed that any horror-themed or Halloween-themed movie had to remind you of how “Evil” and “Dangerous” Halloween could be. But now, it looks like we might actually get a movie that could remind people of how “Fun” the month of October really is. For those of you who’ve never had the pleasure of living in the 90s, ‘Goosebumps’ is an ongoing series of horror novellas written by R.L. Stine. What made the stories so interesting and addictive was the fact that even though they were creepy tales of the macabre, they were just light-hearted enough for kids to read; they were still children’s books, but R.L. Stine took his readers seriously and didn’t try to dumb it down completely just for the sake that they were meant for kids. These books were the perfect blend of Horror and Comedy and for a lot of us these books were probably the most important thing from our childhoods, because they actually helped some kids learn how to read as well as making them WANT to look up more advanced and challenging books.

‘Goosebumps’ was literally inescapable. You didn’t just have the original books, but you also had many spin-off titles like ‘Goosebumps: HorrorLand’, ‘Give Yourself Goosebumps’, ‘Goosebumps 2000’, just to name a few. Not to mention plenty of comic books, video games, board games, toys, clothes, lunchboxes, and even an amusement park attraction…Noticed how I didn’t mention the TV show? DO I EVEN NEED TO MENTION THE TV SHOW?!?

Hmm…I would be mad that I don’t have any clips to show you from the show, but I think I would actually be more mad if they don’t include this theme song in the movie. Anyways, I will admit that it looks a little “too” child-friendly for my taste. I don’t mean in the good way, either. I’m talking ‘Night At The Museum’ child-friendly.

Yeah, not exactly the kind of “scary” I was hoping for from my 90s horror-comedy time capsule. Remember movies like ‘Ghostbusters’, ‘The Monster Squad’ and ‘Gremlins’? Movies with some pretty horrific moments that some parents back then would never let their children watch, even though those movies were still somewhat marketed towards children…now that is what I would like from MY ‘Goosebumps’ movie. With that said, you’d think I would automatically be turned off by the idea of Jack Black playing R.L. Stine and facing against some CGI monsters with a bunch of nobodies from Teen Vogue magazine. Then again, I’ve been wrong before…BOY, have I been wrong before!

Some say that trailers give you a first impression of what a movie is going to be like, others say that you shouldn’t judge a movie solely on its trailer. For this movie, I’m gonna go with the latter. As I said before, I’m gonna give more serious-toned horror films a rest this year. No whining and groaning from stuck-up, over-protective parents over morbid and violent horror movies that they took their children to see or let them see without doing the proper research THIS Halloween. That’s right, I went there! You can put the picket signs down now, Westboro. There’s finally a horror movie that even YOU can take your family out to see.

Right off the bat, I know this movie is going to be very successful. At least financially, anyway. I just have this feeling. I can see it now, movie theaters packed with children, parents, fans of the books, fans of the old TV Series, fans of Jack Black, curious moviegoers who would probably become fans afterwards, even teens and young adults seeing this movie for a date night because their girl “Doesn’t like scary movies!”. The ‘Goosebumps’ franchise is back with a vengeance.

Now before I go, I do wanna mention something. Since we’re talking about 90s Nostalgia and ‘Goosebumps’ not only coming back but coming back to the big screen…you know what other TV show from the 90s they should REALLY bring back to theaters to rival ‘Goosebumps’ at least one last time?

We got Kickstarter nowadays, people. I’m just saying. Anyways, what do you guys think? Excited? Not impressed? Are you ‘Goosebumps’ fans? Or are you more partial to ‘Are You Afraid Of The Dark’? Let me hear your thoughts. Gotta Dash!
