Dash News…Beauty & The Beast Trailer Released

Hey, everyone! it’s Dash Jordan here with some breaking news. Just recently, the official teaser trailer for Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of ‘Beauty & The Beast’ has been released. Let’s take a look…

Honestly, I wanted to do a Dash Rant. Not just about the film itself, but the whole trend of Disney making live-action remakes of their own movies. I honestly never saw the appeal. Some of these films are regarded as classics for a reason, not just in terms of animated movies but as movies. These cherished cinema gems don’t need a live-action re-telling of the same story. It’s fine when other studios do it, but Disney doesn’t need to go back remake their own stuff. Disney can handle Star Wars, Muppets, and Marvel just fine, why can’t they have the same level of respect for their own properties? To be fair, while I hated ‘Maleficent’, I have heard some good things about ‘Cinderella’ and ‘The Jungle Book’, both of which I will review some day soon. As far as the trailer for ‘Beauty & The Beast’…I actually kind of liked it.

Trust me, I’m just as surprised as you are. I have to give credit where credit is due, it looks almost as beautiful as the animation of the original. I know what I’ve said before about how Disney shouldn’t have to remake our childhood just for the sake of making it live-action. But…the interior of the castle just looks gorgeous. It really looks like they’ve spent days upon days trying to make sure every nook and cranny of the castle to look almost exactly like its animated counterpart. That, and the way you get to see the candles melting and all of the dust, cobwebs and debris gradually build up over time was just…I thought that was special. Oh, and thank you Disney for keeping the same opening music from the original movie for the trailer, that was a really nice touch. Speaking of nice touches…

Whether the film turns out to be good or bad, I will say this. Emma Watson as Belle…is PERFECT casting. Everyone and their mother knows Emma from her role as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter films, but has since gone on to do films like ‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’, ‘The Bling Ring’, ‘Noah’, and her hilarious cameo as herself in the post-apocalypic comedy, ‘This Is The End’; which have all gained success in their own right. Seriously, I have no problem with Emma Waston playing Belle. She’s an incredibly talented, gifted, beautiful and intellegent young actress, and I’m confident that she’ll give a good performance. Now, I’ve gone on about everything that we’ve seen in the trailer. But, let’s quickly discuss what we didn’t see.

I liked how they didn’t show what Beast looks like in this movie. It’s kinda similar to the marketing for the 1998 ‘Godzilla’ remake, where you didn’t see the monster until you saw the movie. I just hope they pull it off better than how “Zilla” turned out. If Disney could do such a great job with the castle and with the casting of Emma Watson, then there should be no excuse as to why Beast doesn’t look awesome. I hope they make him look scary, personally. Keep Beast sensitive and sympethic, but don’t make him look cuddly and pathetic. Hollywood has been appeasing the teen girls for far too long, now it’s time to make a monster look like a damn monster. I want the sharp teeth, jagged horns, long claws, mangy hair, and the long dirty cape! Please Disney, make Beast a badass again!

Anyway, the live-action ‘Beauty & The Beast’ will be in theaters on May 17th next year. Oh, and yes…I will also be there. Until then, Gotta Dash!
